As women warriors it
is up to us to ensure our traditions and customs are followed
and upheld. We must strive to reclaim our rightful place in our
societies and re-learn and revive our language, songs, dancers,
ceremonies, as well as, wear our traditional clothing and make
our tools an baskets. As women warriors we must conduct
ourselves as traditional Indian women to hold onto our ways and
let our Nations rise again.
As women warriors we
must always acknowledge that the impressionable young women and
girls are looking at us for examples and on how to conduct
themselves as
women.
We as women, cannot let abuse in our communities continue. Our
women warriors councils have an obligation to the children-when
we have women and children that are disrespect in our
communities, through abuse or rape, it is up to us to ensure our
traditional laws are enforced, no matter how savage or
"uncivilized" the rest may think it is. From the Caribbean to
Secwepemc Territory the penalty for sexual abuse is death. I
speak about this because of the abuse that plagues our
communities and takes a grip on the lives of our young women. It
will not be tolerated any more because any abuse or disrespect
on women is a disrespect to our Mother, the Earth.
We can no longer
tolerate any type of disrespect by men. Men treating women like
'b*****s' and following the pitiful ways women are treated on
music videos and movies. To all you men out there that keep a
women around as a maid, cook and sex toy you better look at
yourself because you are not a warrior and certainly do not hold
any respect or honor in the eyes of traditional women warrior.
We,
as women warriors, need to stand strong and powerful again; we
need to organize ourselves and work together in order to protect
our Land, Water and Peoples. We are the ones that will lead the
way, we are the ones that will give birth to the future warriors
and teach them what is needed to uphold our instructions from
the the Creator. We must always be alert and patrol our
communities and territory and watch for enemies. The day when
Indian women and men will need to stand side by side to fight
our enemy and demand the respect we deserve has come-it is NOW!
There has been no
Indigenous Resistance Movement where women were not involved.
Remember that the time has come-and to the men you must always
remember the words of a Taino Elder Women Warrior, "any man out
there don't talk that militant s**t to me with a white b***h by
your side."
And to all you
Indian men out there that think you can survive without an
Indian woman, YOU'RE WRONG!
