Rules of registration are same as all Dancers for the Gathering.  All registration must be completed before Grand Entry Friday afternoon.

Competition:
Competition is both Friday afternoon and Saturday night.
Routines should be based on 7 minute routines.
First rounds will begin Friday afternoon outside, in front of the live stage.  Competition will be in groups.  Size of group will depend on size of area in front of stage and number of competitors. You will be judged on one song about 7 minutes long.  We will be selecting the top 5 contestants to go onto the finals, which will be Saturday night in the “Pit” just after the crowning of Miss Indian World.  Depending on the number of groups a second song may be necessary to get the best 5 contestants.

General Rules:
All contestants will be required to wear bells, tinklers, and/or deer hooves to help judging for rhythm.
No preset hoop formations before you begin dancing.
No eagle whistles – not before, during or after performing.
No religious prayers in dance arena.
No taped or mechanical props- no taping hoops together.  You will be required to dance using only the hoops you bring to dance with.

Criteria for Judging:
Timing/Rhythm- feet must continuously keep time to the drum.
Precision- Hoops should not fall to ground unintentionally.  If hoops are thrown in air they must be caught.  Remember there will be other contestants dancing near by when choosing your routine.
Showmanship- Hoop Dancing should be directed to the audience.  If dancers routine is finished but drum has not stopped, must dance till the end of music.
Creative/Originality- Traditional Hoop dancing accepted.  Dancers doing Back flip, break dancing, cartwheels, and handstands will be penalized for doing gymnastic moves.
All other rules will be gone over prior to the Friday afternoon preliminary rounds.
Contest will be organized and judged by Native American Hoop and Pow Wow dancers from the United States and Canada.
