Greetings Nicole! It has been 5 days since your arrival for the Miss and Teen Miss Lumbee Pageants and 4 days since our wonderful lunch at Fuller's - and I am still in shock! Thank you so much for taking the time to come to North Carolina, judge our pageant, and have lunch with Sunshine and myself. You are a beautiful person who has blessed me with your presence, your knowledge, wisdom, advice and awesome sense of humor and adventure!! I pray to the Creator that you have a terrific year and I wish you all the absolute best with everything!! I look forward to seeing you again in April! Until then - love, peace and frybread grease!

Quyana Cakneq!

This one is for YOU! All of you who supported me in my endeavors as a title holder especially those of you who never lost hope who believed in me as a person

This accomplishment is for you, your children, your elders, your teachers, your leaders - it is for All Of Us!

I competed in this pageant with you in mind and now I feel humbled and honored to hold this position as a representative of a vast and beautiful rich group of people, not earthly wealth but cultural wealth, our language, traditions and culture – We Are Rich!

I’d love to meet you personally; feel free to approach me during events or speaking engagements especially when I’m away from home - I love seeing my Native people!

Quyana for your comments and support!

Does this name look familiar? I am so proud of you! Congratulations! I wrote this for you.

The great cold Northwest
The warmest home she's ever known

What could you expect
From this little Native American girl?

Would you think she could grow to become
The beautiful Miss Indian World?

Her blood line survives
The wretched trail of tears

Droplets of water falling to the ground
Providing strength for her future years

A heritage so beautiful
We thank you for this angels' birth

Her heart has watered the fields of hope
In our dear mother Earth

Producing a glimmer of life's real possibility
Giving little girls dreams

daring to think if she can make it out
Then maybe there's hope for me?

She was orphaned to this world
But she never stood alone

Always knowing her God
Would place her where she belonged

We Shout
"We Love You!"

As the 2008
Miss Indian World takes her rightful thrown
Nicole Alek'aq Colbert

You have shown the world
Exactly what we have

Always Already Known.

First off CONGRATULATIONS Nicole! My 6 year old son (who is home-schooled) now wants to learn about the Inuit Culture. Thank you for your important roll. He loved watching you, he had three girls he loved because he thought the taught him the most and you all were the final three.
We are going to take him to the WEIO in July. You became his favorite when he watched you walk up the stairs and talk to people and hug them. We all know you have a good heart. We saw you one night in the restaurant and he was bugging us to go say Hello. Know we feel bad because he never got his chance. While learning about Inuit culture he will be leaning about his own Cree culture. You opened our eye to the importance of this knowledge for children.
For anyone: Is the Disney Cruise a cruise to go on with Miss Indian World or is it a private cruise she goes on alone? He has been bugging to go on the cruise and we attach everything to a leaning experience for him so if he can go for this purpose I know he would love the chance. Also if Disney donated the tickets, maybe it would be nice for them to see they sell tickets for giving them away.
For the Gathering of Nations Organization: We have tried to call and can not leave a message because the box is full. We own our own company and would like to know if it is possible to donate the money to bring a Inuit Dance group down to perform next year at The Pow Wow. Please feel free to email me.
Thank you all for the experience. This goes out to the people who put the Gathering of Nations, Miss Indian World Organizers, the Speakers, Contestants, Drummers, Dancers, Performers and everyone else who made this a beautiful and honorable experience.
We send the warmest hugs to all of you.
