“Gathering of Nations
Participates In Book Give Away”
For the second year in a row the application
submitted by Dr. Lita Mathews, on behalf of the Gathering of Nations,
Ltd., to the First Book National Book Bank has been accepted. In October
Dr. Mathews placed the application with the National Book Bank, in
Washington, DC. On Wednesday November 22nd, the Gathering of Nations was
notified that more than 5,000 books will be delivered to the Gathering
of Nations, to be given away to young readers at the 2007 Gathering of
Nations powwow. Dr. Mathews
says, “The literacy of Native young people has always been a personal
concern of hers and also meets the educational objectives of the
Gathering of Nations. “When I was growing up in the mountains of
northern New Mexico, the personal ownership of books by young people was
non existent. For native kids to have books of their very own is the
first step toward educational success.” The books, ranging in more than
twenty different titles are fun stories and geared toward life
experiences and the imaginations of children. Dr. Mathews goes on to
say, “I hope that we can keep this going for many years to come“.
