KĒVENS TO HEADLINE STAGE 49 For 2008 the Mathews have
redirected the energy of the contemporary music venue at the
Gathering of Nations Pow Wow. The first step was to identify the
purpose for the stage and to give it a brand new name. Without
much delay the Name “Stage 49” was given. The purpose was easy…
To provide a performance space for Native Musicians and to also
bring additional music performances that would entertain and be
enjoyed by all. This year the Gathering of Nations is very happy
to bring KĒVENS and his band to the Stage 49 as the Saturday
night headline and closing act. KĒVENS came to the Gathering of
Nations in 2007 as a guest of the Mathews Family. He found the
event enlightening and one which brings so many people together.
He felt that his show was perfect for the audience at the
Gathering of Nations.
KĒVENS' showmanship is not
surprising when you look at his back ground and experience. He
has toured and headlined several festivals all over the world.
This International Rock, drum 'n' bass reggae artist started his
career as a DJ spinning in the clubs of south Florida. His
relationship the Marley’s and musical affiliation with the
family as a youth has caused him to keep on top of the trends
and be in tune with what his fans want him to deliver. His Live
show is powerfully profound, with visual and sound effects that
will astonish you.
Known for his beautifully lush
drum 'n' bass, mixed with a funky, progressive, rocking Reggae
style, KĒVENS is on a mission to provide the world with
positivity. The former DJ and MC turned singer/songwriter,
strives to take people to a higher level of consciousness. The
poetic performer got his start as a performing artist when he
formed his first progressive Reggae group, Le Coup, with Bob
Marley's half brothers Richard and Anthony. Cedella Booker
Marley, Bob Marley's mother, told young KĒVENS very early in his
musical career, "Like a letter, you must write a song with
purpose." KĒVENS' message of "Positivity is a Necessity" is
always at the center of this art and his life. Though his
elaborate stage costumes and theatrical concerts are pure
21st-century, his goal is timeless: to bring all races, cultures
and backgrounds together.
KĒVENS has performed with, and
has been seen along side, an eclectic array of greats including
Chuck Berry, Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler, Prodigy, Moby, Steel
Pulse, Jimmy Cliff, Black Uhuru, Third World , Yellow man, KC
and JoJo, Run DMC to name a few.
Among his unreleased gems, are
songs from work he did with the UK-based group, Hybrid as well
as from Rabbit in the Moon. Most notably, his song "Freedom" is
one of the standout tracks from the internationally renowned
Ultra Dance Music Film Festival DVD, which also contains tracks
from Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk. KĒVENS’ music can
be downloaded on I tunes.
